We as your hosts acquired the property in 2023 and following a makeover opened our doors to receive guests from spring 2024 onward.

We are located about 50 minutes car drive south of Siena, close to the medieval hilltop town Montepulciano. Click here for google map location.

We operate as a Bed & Breakfast, offering no full meals besides breakfast. Guests are expected to leave the relais and explore the many nearby restaurants for lunch or dinner.

Our on-site meal options include the following choices:
From 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, we provide APERITIFS & SNACKS in our outdoor cocktail lounges.

In spring and autumn, we offer our guests a stay-in dining option until 7:00 PM. Our WINE & MIXED PLATTER includes a bottle of our estate wine paired with a selection of delicious regional cold cuts and cheeses.

With prior arrangement, we organize ROMANTIC PICNICS in our idyllic wildflower fields or set up an exclusive PRIVATE DINNER amidst the picturesque surroundings of our olive grove.

Bringing in outside food and having personal picnics on the premises is not part of our concept and is not permitted.

We operate as a B&B, meaning that our guests leave the property to enjoy lunches and dinners at the many excellent restaurants in the surrounding area.

Alternatively, guests can choose from the on-site meal options we offer.

Our guests can relax at the pool or hide away in shady pergolas, read a book in our outdoor lounge chairs or benches, which are spread over the area, each offering distinct views over the valley or our emblematic ruin. There is also a common living-room with several sitting areas, a fireplace, a library, SONOS Music speaker, and board games for social distraction.

Not many people know this, but Tuscany is home to many thermal baths. One of the best thermal baths near Montepulciano is Bagno Vignoni. It is one of the oldest in the area whose hot springs have already been used centuries ago by the Romans. After you relax in the therapeutic waters, have a romantic dinner in town or explore more of the surrounding landscape.

Four of our five rooms are located in a separate wing in the first floor of the main villa, reachable by an external stone staircase. From a common living-room area the double rooms are accessed trough a central aisle with two rooms on each side. Our fifth room is located in the ground floor and opens up into the courtyard.

We aim to provide our guests with the best possible vacation experience while minimizing our environmental impact.

The guest rooms are cleaned every 2 days. Hand, shower, and pool towels are changed upon request after 3 days, and bed linens are changed every 7 days.

More frequent changes are available upon request for an additional fee.

Small groups renting ABBADIA WINE RELAIS for their private use will have access to a fully equipped kitchen with stove, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. During normal B&B operations there is no access to these facilities out of consideration for potential disturbance of other guests.

No. However, thanks to more than 200 years old, thick stone walls and high ceiling structure, the room temperature remains pleasant even in hot summer days. Electric fans for additional cooling are available, if desired. All rooms have underfloor heating to enable a year-round visiting experience even in winter times.

Operating as a B&B we serve breakfast from 07.30 to 09.30, attend reception from 10.00 to 11.00 and host Aperitifs & Cocktails from 17.30 to 19.30. Having found our own home in ABBADIA WINE RELAIS we, as hosts, are delighted to share this unique and charming place with you. A place which thanks to its vast setting of 26 hectares and numerous hideaways is spacious enough to preserve a private and peaceful environment for our guests.

We look forward to receiving our guests between 4pm and 6pm in the afternoon. Check-out is scheduled from 10am to 11am.

Our fresh, regional, and varied breakfast is served from 08:15 to 09:30 AM, outdoors in the olive grove if the weather is nice, otherwise in our breakfast lounge on the first floor.

Yes, we require a minimum booking of 2 nights.

We are a non-smoking hotel. However, we have a designated outside smoking area for our smoking guests. Please ask at check-in, and we’ll be happy to show you where it is located.

We are producing our own extra vergine olive oil and organic grapes of predominantly Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. From early 2000 until 2015 ABBADIA WINE RELAIS has been producing own wines by the previous owners who stopped activities for reasons of age. Since then grapes are being sold to local winemakers. For the time being we offer our guests a fine selection of personally curated boutique wines from the regions. As new owners of ABBADIA WINE RELAIS we are currently making plans to reopen our cantina to tie in with our wine history.     

We are situated between Montepulciano and Pienza, a region famous for its cultural richness and scenic beauty. Montepulciano is 10 minutes away, Siena 50, the beaches 90, Umbria 40. Besides proximity to numerous cultural sights, there are hiking and biking trails at our very doorstep, biking rental can be organized on request. Thermal springs and baths can be reached in 30 minutes, beautiful Tuscan postcard landscapes which lent their sceneries to Hollywood films are 20 minutes away. The region around Montepulciano counts numerous wine estates that offer tasting tours, hundreds of restaurants which cater to every taste. We are very happy to recommend our personal highlights for you to experience.

The Christmas Village in Montepulciano is the largest Christmas market in Central Italy. It usually spans from November till January, offering an amusing way to spend the days before and after Christmas, immersed in a fairytale setting, offering gift ideas and street food with typical specialties. Our rooms at ABBADIA WINE RELAIS all have underfloor heating which makes it a cosy stay even in colder winter times. We will surprise our guests with a typical Swiss Cheese Fondue dinner served outside in our romantic courtyard – wrapped in warm blankets under the stars – an unforgettable memory for sure.

From autumn to spring, the region offers mild temperatures, perfect for exploring historic cities like Florence, Siena, and Pisa or enjoying scenic walks and wine tastings. With fewer crowds, popular attractions are more accessible, and accommodations often come at reduced prices. Autumn brings vibrant vineyard colors during the grape harvest, while spring offers lush, blooming landscapes. Visiting Tuscany in the off-season provides a peaceful and cost-effective way to enjoy its timeless charm.
